Did you know that poor diet does more than make you fat? It also makes you stupid!
According to Dr. Alan Logan, in his new book “The Brain Diet”, he finds the people in the United Sates and Canada eat foods that do not contribute to Healthy brain function.
In other words, eating well can make you smart, and opposite is also true, eating poorly can make you stupid.
Dr. Logan concluded that the overall diet in the US and Canada is based on an excess of nutritionally poor calories, and a lack of consumption of the proper foods that protect brain cells.
In other words, the foods that make us fat also make us stupid; and not only, also he found these foods contribute to neurodegenerative diseases.
Doctors and books have been reminding us for decades now how a proper diet can help protect our bodies from cardiovascular disease and cancer, but now the link to mental and neurological health needs also to be stressed.
Dr.Logan is a naturopathic physician and professor at Harvard University’s Mind-Body Medical Institute.
He pointed out in his book that it appears to have overlooked how many nutrients are directly linked with alternation in both psychiatric and neurological conditions.
Quite interestingly, he concluded that although we have our genetic predispositions, they can be somehow influenced by the way and what we eat. Also to blame is that doctors are not taught this fact in medical school.
Can an incorrect diet lead to Alzheimer’s?
According to Dr. Logan, yes.
Things like eating packaged candy when one is tired in the afternoon, can certainly increase the diabetes and heart disease, but he pointed out that the increased insulin secretions associated with a sugary diet increase the risk for Alzheimer’s and depression.
It seems the most harm is done by eating the combination of the wrong types of fat with too much sugar in the same diet.
This diet produces a fat that becomes part of brain cells surrounding membranes. Brain cells are normally flexible.
However, a diet that includes an excess of trans fat, Omega-6 fatty acids, and saturated fats, can cause the brain cells to be inflexible. What does this do? It disrupts brain cell communication and affects our cognitive abilities.
Dr. Logan sited one study where animals that consumed an excess of trans fats had a much greater risk of getting Alzheimer’s and had a much decreased cognitive ability. He mentioned that a poor diet sets the stage from anything like ADHD to schizophrenia.
Dr. Logan’s Brain Diet.
There is a very good brain diet cited, but of utmost importance, if nothing else is done, is to increase one’s intake of Omega-3 fatty acids.
These will help not only one’s cardiovascular system, but also protect a person from neurological disorders.
Dr. Logan also states that increasing your Omega-3 fatty acids can have a good effect on your mental abilities, mood and act as an anti-depressant.
Citing recent studies, Dr.Logan concluded that nutrition can have both positive effects (if correct) and very negative ones (if incorrect) on your cognitive abilities.
Examine what you eat. Are you foods full of trans fats?
Are you eating only processed and packaged foods with over-doses of sugars, wrong fats, and chemicals? T
hese could not just be making you stupid, but could be setting the stage for early mental decline and even an untimely death.

When you go into the Police Academy you have to be able to pass their Fitness Test or whatever. What are some basic things you have to do in this test, and how many push ups, pull ups, and sit ups and whatever.
This will vary, but the requirements should be provided to anyone who inquires. Very, very early in my time on Yahoo Answers, I was able to find the requirements for one city on their website to answer a similar question — so if you tell me which force you are attempting to learn about, I might be able to find it.
I also had a patient who was moving across the country to join he force in a major city on the West coast, and he had hearing loss from military service. Fortunately, their guidelines were very specific, and he was actually able to meet there criteria. Of course these requirements are to for ENTRY to the academy or force — they don’t seem to perform routine Fitness evaluations! LOL!

Scientists have made a lot of studies to see how much fat intake a person is allowed to have and still be Healthy. Some said that 30% of the daily calories could be represented by fat; others said that only 15% do not endanger our heart system, but people still do not know exactly how much fat are they allowed to eat.
The American Heart Association could not say exactly how much fat is good for us and also did not recommend a very low fat diet declaring that this could only increase the levels of triglycerides and lower the level of HDL while the ‘bad’ cholesterol LDL would not be significantly lowered.
This does not mean that a low fat diet is not good for us but nutritionists prefer to add to this diet fruits and vegetables to have a maximum effect upon the bad level of cholesterol.
When keeping a low fat diet people should consider eliminating the salt and sugar from it too and should try instead to bring more minerals and nutrients to the body.
This low fat Diet is not suitable for everyone and children and elders should talk to a physician before adopting the diet. Those who suffer of chronic disease and the pregnant women should also consider a previous discussion with the nutritionist to see if this diet is suitable for them or not.
Nowadays, the American Heart Association recommends a diet that brings less than 30% of total calories in fat and less than 300 milligrams of cholesterol daily. People should also keep a count of the salt and sugar intake, being allowed to consume about 2,400 milligrams of salt a day.
In order to keep you heart healthy you should follow some recommended steps in you diet. Try to avoid saturated fat foods which increase the level of cholesterol in blood and replace them with monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats like olive and rapeseed oil, nuts and oily fish, corn and soy oil.
Keep an active lifestyle, exercise 30 minutes daily and keep your weight under control. Eat more fruits and vegetables, wholegrain cereals and pasta then cookies, sweets and burgers.
Try to give up smoking as it can give you cancer and emphysema and heart diseases. This measure must be taken especially by those who have already had a heart attack and other heart diseases. Avoid stress as much as you can and go for periodically checkups at the doctor.

One of the forerunners of the sudden boom in the diet industry is the South Beach Diet. Since its birth as diet program for the people with heart problems in a small clinic in South Beach (you guessed it!), the diet has gained a lot of following across the country.
Where it all started
The South beach diet program was created by Dr. Arthut Agatston, a cardiologist, for his patients. Despite the perception, South Beach diet is not a low carbohydrate diet. Instead, it is based on the Glycemic Index, a scale where in people can find the effects of various carbohydrate-rich food on their blood sugar level. South Beach diet focuses on finding a balance on the foods that bring in the good carbohydrate and fats and the foods that don’t.
Phases to go through
South Beach diet involves different phases that dieters must take in order to complete the program. The first phase is the most crucial and the strictest part as it involves a major change in the eating lifestyle of the person. In this phase, the person on a diet is forbidden to eat anything but fish, shellfish, meat, chicken, turkey, vegetables, nuts, eggs and cheese. They are not allowed to take in carbohydrate-rich food such as bread, rice, pasta and cereals. Ditto with sugar-rich food such as candies, ice cream, cakes, and even fruits. This phase will last for a period of two weeks.
What is different from other Diets is the fact that people under the program are allowed to each as much as they want. There is no restriction when it comes to the quantity. In fact, they are even allowed to take three meals a day plus an added boon, the additional morning and afternoon snacks and the dessert. Of course, they are advised to drink lots of water, coffee and tea.
The second phase in the program involves an unspecific period of time as it depends solely on the progress of the diet. It will run until the person reaches his or her ideal weight. In this phase, the dieter will have to incorporate the carbohydrates back into the daily diet but only in moderation. This takes patience as dieters can only lose about two pounds a week, which can be really frustrating as they have lost as much as 13 pounds in the previous phase.
After reaching the ideal body weight, dieters will go through the third phase, which is actually the maintenance of the new eating lifestyle. Creators of the South Beach diet hopes that through the program, the body has changed the way it craves for food.
For instance, because the body has not taken in much carbohydrates; it will cease to crave foods that are rich in carbo. The aim of the third phase is actually quite simple. Dieters need only to maintain the ideal weight that they have achieved in the second phase.

I want to loose about 20 pounds in 1 month. I am very lazy and I would like to get a Fitness dvd that is helpful but you don’t have to work as hard. Unlike the Jillian Michael’s dvd. Thankyou very much.
pretty much if you want to lose weight and do it the Healthy way, you can’t be lazy. i know its hard to start getting motivated, but what kinds of things have you tried? and why cant you get motivated?
things that help motivated are working out with a friend, switching up your exercises and workout programs and activities so it doesnt get monotonous and boring.
i always try to get my friend to go running with me and he’s so lazy! but he hates it because it’s not fun and its boring. so, he happens to LOVE racquetball, so we play that for up to 3 hours some days.
dont feel bad about not wanting to bust you ass for hours a day because most people dont want to do that.
but you really are going to have to challenge yourself a little if you want to lose weight. make it fun and be creative and hopefully that will help.
like the person above, Jillian Michaels is GREAT!!! her stuff is definitely hard but do it with someone else. her dvd "30 day shred" is awesome. its only 20 minutes long but its hard and definitely pays off. also, tae bo is great too. if you like dancing, find a dancing dvd that will burn calories. good luck and hopefully this helps.

Dr. Atkins furthermore emphasized the need of finding your own individual carb level. Various individuals have unique degree of carbohydrate tolerance. Every now and then even if it does not occur very often, some individuals are going to live through a carbohydrate crash frequently during the 3rd and up to 5th day of the Dr. Atkins diet. Such sort of reaction is a result of their body experiencing the ketosis phase or using fat as fuel instead of carbs. The sensation is short-lived but lots of people trying to lose weight have sworn off high-protein, low-carbohydrate diets entirely because of this small accident.
Overall, with the few trivial shortcomings considered, high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet invented by Dr. Atkins continues to be one of the most used high protein diets because of one simple reason. It works. A lot of people have succeeded with the high protein, low carbohydrate diet by Dr.Atkins and the high-protein, low-carbohydrate approach to dieting.

I think it’s very important because of flexibility and stamina. It’s one of the many benefits to Fitness.
Well it is incredibly important, I mean if you are out of breath 5 minutes in….not so good. Plus for over weight men the shaft of the penis can be covered up by excess belly fat. A man gains 1/2 inch in "size" for every 35 lbs he loses!
Another plus to being fit is that stronger core muscles equal bigger orgasms for both men and women. An orgasm is just a muscle spasm, stronger muscles mean bigger spasms!
Diet is very important is well. A major cause of low libido is a zinc deficiency!
