How to Find a Diet That Fits your Nutrition Needs

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

Living a balanced life and having a balanced diet is critical to maintaining sufficient energy levels. However, every individual needs something different. Several of these needs are based on the person’s physiological characteristics. There are several different ways to find out what you should eat, and how much you should work out, as well as where the concentration should be. By understanding your physiological make-up, your nutrition needs can be more effectively met. The place to begin is your doctor’s office. You will need to have some tests to create the foundation of your diet and exercise plan.

One important measurement is your BMI – or Body Mass Index. It is a ratio derived by comparing your weight to your height. The results indicate how much of your body is comprised of fatty tissue. As may be expected, there is an optimal range for your BMI that depends on your height and weight.

Another important measurement is the RMR, or Resting Metabolic Rate. This measurement determines how many calories you burn while at rest. As with the BMI, there is an optimal level. Once you know these two numbers, you can get some good ideas about how to modify your diet and lifestyle.

Finally, you will need to know your cholesterol, fasting blood sugar, and blood pressure levels. Any one of these can limit the amount of exercise or type of exercise you can pursue, as well as the foods and diets you can try.

When it comes to calories, the three main items measured in nutrition studies are carbohydrates, proteins and fats. A complete analysis also evaluates for Vitamins and minerals. All of these factors should be arranged in your diet in such a way that you get all of the recommended daily allowances of nutrients without having to resort to vitamins. Your diet plan should also take into account your level of exercise.

Other things that you should consider are dietary elements that can cause negative impacts on specific symptoms. As an example, beef is the only meat that offers every protein your body needs. At the same time, it is high in cholesterol. When you are changing your diet, therefore, it is important to keep track of your cholesterol levels, so that you can learn how your body is metabolizing certain foods.

Many times people seek diet and exercise programs because they found out their blood pressure may be too high or too low. Like high cholesterol, high blood pressure can lead to serious problems later in life. Both diet and exercise programs can serve to lower the blood pressure, as well as cholesterol levels. Some people, however, will need the help of medications or herbal supplements.

Once you have had your basic tests, and have decided on your exercise plan, you can begin to formulate your diet plan. This is not especially complicated. Basically, what you put in your body will have predictable results on how healthy you look and feel. There is a bit of effort to researching, and then measuring all of the nutritional values you will need to keep track of. In addition, you will need to do some tweaking and refining as you go along to adapt the basic Diet and exercise plans to your individual body.

Knowing your unique physiological profile is an important part of developing and maintaining good diet and exercise habits. It will also help you to be able to find the right solutions to your nutrition needs. With some basic information and a sound plan, you will easily be able to control your weight, maintain your Fitness goals, and have plenty of energy.

What are the requirements for being a fitness instructor?

Monday, December 14th, 2009

I would like to be a fitness teacher. One that teaches classes at a Fitness center, & not a Personal Trainer. But I wasnt sure if certifications were mandatiory.

In most cases your local community college will be able to answer that question. The reason for this is that every state has it’s own guidelines to be certified.

The Secret to Finding the Best Weight Loss Diet

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Visit any discussion forum on the internet for those wanting to lose weight, and you will find an astonishing number of people searching for which the “best” diet is to lose weight. Generally they also want to lose it quickly. That’s natural and normal.

However the answers these people get are both very muddling and very revealing.

How come?

Well the thing you will find is that nobody agrees with one another. One person will have lost a huge amount of weight on Weight Watchers, another will swear by Rosemary Connelly. And so on. There may be dozens of “best” diets recommended.

And there’s a reason for that – there *is* no best diet – just the best diet *for you*.

It’s vitally important to understand that fact, so please reread the last line to burn it into your head.

Let’s be honest – we all know that basically to lose weight we need to burn fewer calories than we consume. By reducing our calorific intake and/or exercising more we will achieve that.

In theory, therefore, you could create your own diet tonight and it would work and help you lose weight.

Perhaps you’d eat just salads and run for 30 minutes 3 times a week.

That would work, wouldn’t it?

Well, yes on a physical, nutritional level.

But perhaps not on a mental level – and that why there is no best diet.

Consider how many foods that are apparently bad for you – can be accommodated by other diets. For example with Weight Watchers you are allowed desserts in moderation. In the Atkins you can eat cheese. Yet people still lose weight on both of those diets.

But there are other differences too. Some diets require no exercise, others moderate and some an aweful lot.

Some require cycling, others running, some walking.

With some you get days off eating healthily, with others you build up “credits” which you can “spend” on treats.

The simple fact of the matter is that we are all different and what appeals to one person may not appeal to others.

The first time I tried the South Beach Diet I lost 7lbs in 7 days – but I disliked the rich food.

In contrast, I loved Body For Life with it’s day off each week to eat whatever I liked.

And so it follows that the best diet – for you – is the one you can follow for a long time. Any diet will work over the short term – like my South Beach experiment.

But for long-lasting wieght loss results you need a diet you can stick to – week after week, month after month.

Because while that sounds depressing – when you actually enjoy the diet sticking to it becomes a pleasure not a pain.

So the key is this – try out a variety of diets yourself. Don’t let others tell you what to do.

Maybe try a week or two of each one to see which you enjoy the most. Which seems “effortless” to you? Because even if you only lose a pound a week but are having the time of your life, it’ll be easier for you to lose weight than if you lost 7lb a week but hated every minute of it!

Do Diet Pills Work?

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

This is the truth. Losing a few pounds is something a majority of people reading this would like to do. Unless you are one of those lucky few who never seem to gain any weight, no matter what they eat. Literally hundreds of thousands of people are out there looking for a safe weight loss solution.

Fad Diets

Dieting is one of the most common methods people use to lose weight. They involve restricting the types of foods as well as the quantity that you take, and might also have an exercise component. The most popular diet programs are: Atkins diet, Frozen food diet, fruitarian diet and many more. Beginning a diet is the easy part, seeing it through to the end is where most people find it difficult. This is where diet pills come in. These are medicines created by the drug companies and are designed to kill your appetite. These pills claim to make you lose weight without any effort.

Diet Pills

There are many diet pills available in the market. Some of them are Olidax, Phentermine, Kava, Xenical, ADX, Fat Absorber TDSL. These pills cause chemical changes in your body and suppress your appetite, which causes you to lose some weight.

They seem to be an easy option for people wanting to lose weight. Just pop a pill a day and there you go. However, it is not as simple as it sounds. Regular usage of many such pills can cause some serious side effects. Headache, dry mouth, dizziness or vomiting. Instead look for a safe diet pill.

What To Do

Controlling your appetite is a good idea. Combined with a balanced and nutritious diet, and regular exercise, it can work wonders for your weight. Be sure, however, that you use a natural method only to control your hunger. There are many herbal products out there which can help you in your weight loss mission. These medicines are made from completely natural ingredients, and will not cause any side effects.

Yoga Instructor Training – The Yoga Diet And Its Focus On Nutrition

Friday, December 4th, 2009

Anyone can practice yoga and not eat a specific diet. Yet, devoted yogis have paid close attention to their diet, as a part of yoga practice, for centuries. For the whole health benefit of yoga, one must pay close attention to nutrition.

Discussions about yoga, and yoga benefits, are mostly centered on the movements of the practice. The focus on holistic nutrition is often swept aside. Yet, this is an essential element of whole body health. In a society where pre-packaged foods are easier to find than fresh vegetables and fruit, no wonder we have the Health problems we do.

Paying attention to what you put into your body helps you listen to your body as well. The foods that are encouraged in yoga nutrition are whole foods, mainly of lacto-vegetarian origin. Whole foods are those that are as close to their natural state as possible. No alterations or pre-processing has been done to them.

Basically, they are the simplest, most natural form, of the food available. Whole foods should be eaten close to their original source, and in season, when possible. Buy foods in their natural form, not packaged. Know the source of your food, and make sure it is as chemical and additive-free as possible.

These processed, packaged, and “spoiled,” are classified in the yoga diet as tamasic. Foods that contain excessive spices, or salt, are also classified as tamasic. These foods cause lethargy, laziness, and an intolerant temper. Sound familiar?

Have you ever felt this way after eating a meal high in salt and preservatives? You did so for good reason. These foods do not support the body’s functions or the mind’s balance. They do the exact opposite. Reason becomes foggy and emotions grow dark. Eating too much, which is nearly encouraged in our society, is also classified as tamasic. Isn’t your well-being reason enough to look at a different way of eating?

Yoga, and Ayurveda, classifies food into three categories: Rajasic, Satvic, and Tamasic. Let’s discuss two of those three categories.

Rajasic foods are stimulating and provide energy. Too much of these foods, which are sometimes high fat, can cause restlessness and weight gain. However, in moderation, they can be used in the yogic diet to perform their purpose. Foods in this category are sour or pungent foods, like onions, garlic, curry, meat, and beverages, such as coffee and teas.

The foods to focus, on including in your diet, are sattvic foods. These are the purest foods that promote health and provide an even energy. Honey, fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, lentils, yogurt and other dairy, make up much of these foods.

Rice and grains are also in this category, providing fiber and assisting digestion. Little, to no preparation, is done to the foods before consumption. In this way, nutrition goes undisturbed with foods which are served raw or lightly cooked. These foods provide the highest degree of benefits and nourish the body. Sattvic foods keep the body balanced and are the most thoroughly absorbed and incorporated.

Impure, highly processed, and synthetic foods, not only isolate the nourishing benefits of foods – they also cause imbalanced conditions. These conditions cause discomfort, obesity, and disease. Most diseases are linked to diet in a major way. Seek to create balance in your body through your diet.

Any change in Diet is difficult because it is a lifestyle change. Lifestyle changes are the only way to see long-term benefits. This is why fad diets are so terrible for the body. The more widely the pendulum swings, the less equilibrium you will experience.

Ancient yogis very much understood this and sought to balance their body, mind, and spirit, in all ways. While you will find great improvement through regular yoga practice, without intentional eating, it will be limited. Make the effort to create a new life balance for yourself through the yoga diet.
